Over the last few weeks we’ve set about customising Value Per Minute to suit the specific league the players are playing in, as opposed to the generic formula we were using before. This will give us a more accurate idea of how a player is performing in their league.
Upon doing this we decided to add and remove some data points. We want to use as many data points as we can while maintaining a positionally unbiased system.
We’ve also made the data points in relation to their frequency and success rate even more accurately reflected in their values. Allowing the data alone to speak without any personal or environmental bias. We’ve also chosen to show the values x100 to make it more familiar and comfortable to users.
In addition, we’ve added a monetary metric to the algorithm. We’ve used leagues and player positions to create monetary value based off VPM. Using select players in each third of the pitch, we’re able to create a benchmark for our values.
Hopefully our changes help improve your experience with and understanding of Value Per Minute
