VPM was built to answer one question: who is actually doing the work?
Most player ratings reward minutes. Most box scores reward the headline event. VPM rewards what happens in every minute — every pass, every challenge, every off-ball run that drags a defender. Four categories — Attack, Defence, Distribution, and Synergy — weighted and combined into a per-minute number that holds across positions, leagues, eras, and across the three sports we cover.
The problem
Fans argue about who carried the win when the box score doesn't show it. Punters bet against a market that prices the famous name, not the per-minute reality. Clubs spend transfer budgets on highlight reels and reputation. The framework solves all three with the same number.
The team
Adam Howard — Co-founder & Chief Analyst. Adam built VPM out of years inside the game. He's the founder of osAussies and has been writing per-minute football analysis on this site since 2020 — applied to player moves, era comparisons, squad construction, and the occasional contrarian take that turned out to be right. All of the published analysis on Real VPM is his.
The methodology is now being extended across basketball and AFL, with data sourced from professional providers (including Wyscout for soccer) and processed through the VPM framework into a single per-minute rating per athlete.
